General Trail Series Info

Taking Runners of all Levels from the Road to the Trail

Are you looking for something new? Is road running becoming monotonous and boring? Are you looking to change up your routine but want to stay running? The Park City Mini Trail Series is a 4-race series designed to introduce new trail runners to the sport. The series is a 5k, 10k, 15k, and 1/2 Marathon. All of the events are on the Round Valley Trails in Park City, Utah. Due to the ease of terrain, these trail runs are designed with beginner users in mind. However, with well marked courses and the regularly placed aid stations, these races are also great speed training for more advanced trail users.

Round Valley Trails:
This portion of Park City’s Trails is known for its easy access from all over Park City as well as its beginner-intermediate runner friendly trails.

Accessing the Quinn’s Junction Trailhead:
From Kimball Junction:
Take SR-224 into Park City. Take a left onto Kearn’s Blvd.  Continue East almost until you reach the freeway.  Take a left on Round Valley Way, like you are going to the hospital.  Instead of going to the hospital, you will take a left and drive around  the dog park and into Quinn’s Recreation Area.  Park in a designated spot.
From Highway 40:
Take I-80 and to SH-40 (if you are coming from Salt Lake City, you will pass the Kimball Junction Exit).  Go east on SH-40.  Take the second exit for Park City.  Take the first right, like you are going to the hospital.  Instead of going to the hospital, take a left onto Round Valley Way.  You will pass the dog park as you enter Quinn’s Recreation Area.

Start Time:
All four events will all start at 8:00 am.  We pride ourselves on starting on time.

Aid Stations:
Every race has aid stations stocked with water and disposable cups approximately every 1.5-2 miles.  For more specific information aid station locations, visit the course info page.

Due to the nature of the courses all aid station materials must be mountain biked on/off the course.  Therefore, there will be water along the course but runners are expected to carry their own electrolytes and gels.  Nuun will be available at the start area.  Runners wishing to carry electrolytes with them may fill their water bottles with Nuun before the race begins.

There will be disposable cups given at each aid station.  We ask that you are conscious of where you throw your cup after you use it.  Because of the terrain, trash has the tendency to cover a large area in a short period of time.  Instead of dropping your cup on the ground, like you would at a road race, we ask that throw it in the garbage bag or hand it to a volunteer.

Mileage Markers & Trail Directions: Mileage will be marked at every mile.  Directions at all trail junctions will also be marked.  In fact, our trails are so well marked that in the 2 years and 6 events that we have put on, not one runner has ever missed a turn or gotten lost.  People even tell us our races are more well marked and easier to navigate than road races!  All markers will be staked into the ground on the side of the trail.

Check out the course info page to view a map and GPS profile of each course.

Dogs: Your favorite running buddy will be allowed to run by your side during all of the Park City Mini Trail Series Events.  As a courtesy, please keep the dog leashed around other participants, including the start/finish area.

Other Trail Users: We do have a permit to be using these trails but they are not reserved for us and they are not closed to other users.  Please be courteous when passing mountain bikers, other runners, or dogs.

Wildlife: As race directors, we are constantly scoping these courses and watching for changes in the trails.  In all of our time in Round Valley we have come across a variety of wildlife including birds of prey, a porcupine, deer, and a pack of coyotes.  Wildlife doesn’t want to be bothered so if you encounter wildlife, the best thing to do is back away non-aggressively.  Consider yourself lucky if you get to see these normally-hidden creatures!

Volunteers & Safety:
Safety is first priority for all R-U-N? Events.  If for any reason, runners need assistance in making it back to the start/finish area, volunteers placed along the course will be able to radio to the finish area for help.  As runners pick up their bib numbers at the start area, they will be “checked out.”  Once a runner crosses the finish line and the bib tag is pulled, the runner will be “checked in” and will be accounted for.  This will help to ensure all runners return safely back to the finish line.

Race-day Prizes:
Every other race out there includes a free t-shirt and it has been said, “I need another free t-shirt like I need a hole in my head.”  That is why the PC MTS doesn’t give t-shirts.  Instead, we give our signature pint glasses. Finish all four events to complete your four-glass set.

Packet Pickup and Parking:
All runners should park in the public parking spaces at Quinn’s Junction.  Parking is limited so please carpool.   Packet Pickup will be at Quinn’s Recreation Area near the concessions stand and restrooms.  All runners should bring confirmation of their registration in case any problems arise with finding your registration.  Only athletes that are going to be running should pick up their bib number because once the number is taken, the runner will be checked out and will not be checked back in until the racer crosses the finish line.

Post-Race Info:
The runner’s finish area will be nothing less than first class.  Food for the post-event area is donated by Wasatch Bagel Cafe, and produce is provided by Fresh Market.  Water and Nuun will also be provided at the finish area.

Cancelation:
In the event that a registered runner can not attend, no refunds will be allowed.  Depending on the nature of the absence, the registration may be deferred to the following year. Please contact rhielle@r-u-nevents.com for information on deferring your registration at least one week prior to the event.
In the event that weather prevents the event from safely taking place, the event will be canceled, and no refunds will be given.
